Initially released in Japan across four volumes back in 1998, the first Sakura Wars OVA series, titled Ouka Kenran, brought the Sakura Taisen franchise off of the game consoles and onto the TV screen. Sporting the stunning character designs of Kosuke Fujishima of Ah! My Goddess fame, and bringing in Satoru Akahori (Sorcerer Hunters, Saber Marionette J) as the Series Editor make this introductory OVA series a real treat for fans of the Sakura Taisen video game series, as well as those admiring Fujishima's art.
Announced as a part of the Sakura Project 2000, Sakura Wars 2: Gouka Kenran was released across six volumes in Japan starting in late 1999. Sporting lush animation, and the addition of new Flower Division members Soletta Orihime and Reni Milchstrasse, who joined up in Sakura Taisen 2 from the Hoshigumi, the second Sakura Wars OVA series focuses less upon the battle aspects of the Flower Division, are more on the exploits of the charming cast as they deal with the pressures of stardom and experiencing growth as individuals in their own personal lives.
